The busy days of summer and fall have passed quickly. The B&B and motel were filled with guests from far and near. Guests came for a getaway, to visit friends and family, for an anniversary, to drop or pick up kids from camp. Sadly several guests came to the area for memorial services. Guests arrived as a couple, single or in groups to enjoy Ligonier… Many came to tour the Laurel Highlands, some to celebrate an anniversary or birthday. As the Campbell House Wedding Planner, I booked many Elopements, took so many photo’s, made wedding albums so the wedding couples would have wonderful memories of their special day.
The life of an Innkeeper is both rewarding and frustrating…as well as never ending work. The expectations and demands of some guests of an Innkeeper is often times frustrating. This year I have experienced the highs and lows of innkeeping…From damage to theft…from rudeness to treating my property and me with disrespect making it very difficult to smile-smile-smile… The rewards of praise of breakfast, comfortable beds, luxurious robes, access to snacks and beverages, decor, taking care of tours and directions is exhibited by comments in the room journals, as well as referrals and repeat visits. Rewards are not limited to financial…My rewards are from the hundreds of guests who have enjoyed their visit and the good bye hugs I receive. A hug makes all the long hours and hard work worth while. I have been hugged by those tall and small…Every hug has been a great reward which I cherish.
